Welcome to Holistic Yoga Circle!

Holistic Yoga Circle is a community of people interested in the transformative power of yoga. We explore the physical practices of yoga and beyond. Our shared interest is how we bring yoga to Life both on and off the mat. It is true - yoga breathing practices can help you regulate your nervous system and become more resilient in a world of uncertainty and rapid change. In addition, yoga postures (and somatic movement) can enable you to reconnect with, love and respect your body unconditionally and wholeheartedly. You don't have to be young, fit, bendy or female to participate in yoga. Yoga is there to support every body, every mind, and every soul.

Beyond Self Care

The power of yoga goes beyond self-care. Gandhi drew upon yoga philosophy from the Bhagavad Gita to gain Indian Independence. Martin Luther King was inspired by these ideas also, as he developed his strategy of nonviolence which secured important civil rights for Black people in the US.

New Ways of Knowing

This newsletter explores both how yoga supports our personal well-being and development, and how we can harness yogic thinking to create a more just and equitable world. As our old. outdated systems collapse, we are called to work collectively, to build more connected, kind and resilient communities in the ruins of the old. Yoga philosophy recognises our interconnectedness, our oneness, and our unity within diversity.

Challenging the Dominant Worldview

The dominant worldview is currently a destructive hierarchical “power-over paradigm.” It glorifies war, oppositional politics, money and control. Humans cannot thrive under these conditions. We work best in collaboration, a fact recognised by the yogic and many other indigenous worldviews. Yoga offers ways to relearn the old ways, to create circles of support and care for each other. In this way, we can empower ourselves from the ground up to reclaim resources, redistribute power and regenerate the health of the Earth and all beings.

Humble Wisdom

Yoga practice helps us to be compassionate, humble and kind whilst reconnecting with our immense inner power. It’s not just for the yoga bunnies, it’s for all of us! If you can breathe, you can practice yoga. Sign up and be inspired to practice, to thrive, and to grow in your inner wisdom.

These audio and video recordings of yoga, somatics and meditation sessions will support your gentle, regular at-home practice. Classes are suitable for beginner students, as well as the more curious longer-term practitioners.
