Yoga for Excessive Sitting
Stuck at your desk for too long? Here is the antidote!
Why Do This Practice?
Sitting for long hours at a desk is very taxing on the body. Our hips tighten up, our glutes switch off, our shoulders round, and our neck shortens at the back. What is more, our core strength muscles switch off.
This class offers some gentle stretching to strengthen the muscles that sitting weakens and to lengthen the muscles that sitting shortens.
How to Do This Practice
To get the most out of this practice remember less is more!
If you feel little tweaks and twinges, modify your movement to be slower and smaller (less range of motion). Play around mindfully to see what feels just right for your body. Apart from a satisfying releasing feeling in your muscles, you ideally would feel very little discomfort. Be strict about doing less so that your body doesn’t need to tighten up to guard against you pushing through your comfortable range of motion, which might look different to my demo. Maintain your focus and remember you can rest and breathe if a particular posture doesn’t feel right to you.
If in doubt, you can book a one-to-one Zoom class with Julia.
