Arch and Flatten (Floor Cogs)
An Essential Somatic Movement for Joint and Back Health
Why Do This Practice?
This is the fundamental movement of Hanna Somatics (Thomas Hanna) and Anatomy in Motion (Gary Ward). And with good reason… Our body needs to remember how the skull, ribcage and pelvis move together, like cogs, to create smooth efficiency in walking, breathing and daily life.
If you only do one yoga or somatic exercise regularly, then do this one! Regular, mindful practice will improve your posture, realign a forward head, open your chest, re-balance your lumbar curve, and improve sacroiliac dysfunction.
These anatomical changes mean better breathing, a more uplifted mood, increased confidence and less aches and pains.
